FIREFLIES
Farming with nature
FIREFLIES aims to develop and validate practical pathways for biodiversity restoration in European agricultural landscapes. Through a farmer-centred and participatory approach, the project will engage rural communities, researchers, advisors and policymakers to identify, co-design and assess measures that support biodiversity and strengthen the resilience of farming systems.
The project will operate across five European demo regions, exploring the ecological, social and economic factors that influence on-farm decision-making. FIREFLIES combines biodiversity monitoring, multi-actor engagement, decision-support tools and innovative financing approaches to facilitate the adoption of restoration measures tailored to local realities.
FIREFLIES is an Innovation Action funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme. The project started in May 2026 and will run for 36 months. The consortium brings together 20 organisations from across Europe, including research centres, universities, agricultural organisations, innovation actors and experts in communication and stakeholder engagement.
