CAFAMORE
Carbon Farming Monitoring and Registry
The main goal of the project CAFAMORE is to set the standard for Carbon Farming in Europe by developing the digital infrastructure, tools, and knowledge needed for credible and cost-effective monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV). Building on the EU Mission Soil, the project will establish an EU-wide parcel-level monitoring system, a spatially explicit registry, and a robust marketplace to strengthen transparency, trust, and environmental integrity in carbon markets.
CAFAMORE will map the Carbon Farming ecosystem, create harmonised data catalogues, standardise baseline methodologies, and test MRV solutions in seven pilot countries representing diverse soils, climates, and farming systems. By combining advanced modelling, remote sensing, and improved soil sampling strategies, the project aims to reduce uncertainty, lower costs, and improve the robustness of carbon certification schemes across the EU.
The project CAFAMORE is a research and innovation action funded by the European Union (Horizon Europe programme) to support the implementation of the EU Mission A Soil Deal for Europe (Mission Soil). It started in July 2025 with a duration of 48 months. The consortium is composed of 23 partners from ten countries, including leading research institutes, companies, and farmer organisations, and is deeply involved in European initiatives such as CRETA, MARVIC, EJP SOIL, and CREDIBLE.
